Rinsey Cove is a haven for butterflies. During late May and early June, the Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary can be easily spotted, flaunting its lavish patterns. If you miss this them during this time don’t worry, as a second brood happens in August, another chance to witness these beautiful butterflies on Rinsey Cove in action.
Another butterfly species to keep an eye out for is the Clouded Yellow, which arrives in Britain on southerly airstreams in May or June. Breeding to produce a second brood, this butterfly species has adapted to survive the British winter, and its presence suggests a possible northward shift of its range due to climate change, a phenomenon observed in other European butterfly species as well.
The coastal area of Rinsey has an impressive record of 23 butterfly species in this area. Among the notable butterflies recorded here are the Silver-studded Blue, the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary, the Green Hairstreak, and the Grayling.
