The most famous cove on the Lizard is Kynance Cove, a gem hidden away from the busy life of Cornwall, the view among the towering cliffs is a sight to see, at low tide you can explore the sandy beach below. All these coves way back when were once used for smugglers bringing in duty-free tobacco and rum as well as other goods.
Along the skyline of the Lizard you might notice a big satellite, this is the Goonhilly Earth Station which is the largest tracking establishment in Europe, as well as that its also a designated SSSI as there is an abundance of wildlife nearby with the selection of flora, fauna and watch your feet when walking around because there can be adders roaming around.
If you’re visiting near the Lizard peninsula we recommend visiting the Helford River, full of English history, as you approach the river you can picture how times have changed as it was once the main port, now just an ambient picturesque village thriving with atmosphere. There are numerous creeks and inlets including Frenchman’s Creek, where Daphne du Maurier came on her honeymoon to find the inspiration for her tale of smuggling and romance.
Around the Lizard there are so many beautiful coves along with stunning beaches, one of the most famous beaches is actually just a short drive from the Lizard, Kynance Cove, a beautifully stunning beach with giant boulders making it somewhat of a maze during low tide. Kynance Cove is the most photographed beach in Cornwall but is only visible at low tide, although it’s beautiful please be careful when exploring this idyllic part of Cornwall. Other beaches in the area are Pentreath Beach, at high tide, it turns into a more pebble beach but at low tide, it becomes a stretch of lovely sand. In winter, the beach is typically rockier, with cliff falls being a hazard. There are a few rock pools at either end of the beach, but it is not a good location for snorkeling and is too dangerous for swimming.
